Marguerite: "You'll forget about me after the next girl"
Armand: "No I couldn't, not after the next 2000"
From their first meeting, Armand Duval (Nino Castelnuovo) is completely captivated by beautiful Marguerite Gautier (Daniele Gaubert). Armand's friend, Gaston, (Roberto Bisacco) explains that Marguerite is kept by a rich old man to whom she is openly unfaithful and that "The hills are littered with the bodies of men she's ruined".
Sparks fly at a party, and the two agree to see each other again. We now see that Marguerite is a habitual drug user (heroin?) .. and Armand expresses his desire to take care of her. Marguerite accepts Armand's love, but on her terms, which - Armand is shocked to discover - include continuing her affair with DeVarville (Philippe Forquet),a wealthy, young nobleman from whom Marguerite accepts money. At one point, Armand sends over a topless messenger, with a message written on her back, calling Marguerite a whore.
The couple manages to come together again, on new terms .. but this is short lived. Armand's father (without his son's knowledge) convinces Marguerite that she is not right for Armand, and that she should break off the relationship.
Marguerite: "Love me less, or understand me better"
The estranged couple meet again at a prison-dungeon themed party .. where the duke, DeVarville, controls her movment with a collar and leash. Marguerite beings a tragic downward spiral ..
